Are tourists destroying the planet — or saving it?
Anthropologist Pegi Vail’s feature-length documentary raises urgent questions about one of the most powerful globalizing forces of our time: tourism. The film follows stories along the well-worn Western travelers’ route — the ‘gringo trail’— through South America, Africa and Asia, revealing the complex relationships between host countries hungry for financial security and the tourists who provide it in their quest for “authentic” experiences.
For kids entering 1st through 5th grades. Come explore STEAM concepts in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. We will drop eggs from the Library balcony, step in ooblek, conduct electricity with a banana, watch soda explode, and much more!
Children, ages 2 to 5, with a parent or caregiver, are welcome to Little Crafters Storytime every Friday at 10:30 am in the Children’s Storytime Room. Listen to a story and stay for a simple craft based on that book. Free! No registration necessary.
As a courtesy to others and because of the craft activity, please no daycare groups at this storytime. Groups are welcome to come to the Tuesday or Wednesday storytimes.
