Wonder by R.J. Palacio is a book that stays with you for a very long time. It is hands down the best book (adult or children's) that I've read this year, and 2012 was a great reading year for me! If I were a school administrator I would require every fifth and sixth grade student to read this book, and maybe even up into the high school grades. The story of ten-year-old, August (Auggie) Pullman, truly shows how we shine from the inside and not from merely our appearances. Please read this book, and fall in love with Auggie, his family, his friends, and classmates.
I will be shocked if Wonder does not win the Newbery Medal for the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children each year. However, there are some very strong contenders for the Newbery in 2012. Please check out this list of this year's potential winners, what librarians call a "Mock Newbery" list, in our catalog.
