The Greater Sandhill Cranes have returned to the Yampa Valley!

These iconic local birds will now nest and raise their young in wetland areas throughout the valley. In late summer and early fall, hundreds of cranes from the Rocky Mountain flock join the local birds to rest and feed before continuing their journey south. Now is the season to start photographing them again! The sixth annual Yampa Valley Crane Festival takes place Aug. 31-Sept. 3 in Steamboat Springs and Hayden, with the library as festival headquarters.
