Spellbinder Storytime: Crane Tales

Thursday, September 2, 2021 - 4:00pm to 5:00pm
  • Library Lawn - Outside of the Children's Storytime Room
A special all-ages storytime in honor of the 10th annual Yampa Valley Crane Festival!

Be delighted and entertained by the Steamboat Spellbinders' wondrous tales that soar, flutter, and glide on the wings of cranes and other birds. Bring your family and friends to hear tales of majestic, wise and often tricky birds that fill our sky with beauty and wonder. Spellbinders is a volunteer storytelling troupe that tells stories to children in the oral tradition. This family friendly program is an all ages show, best suited for kids in preschool all the way up through adult.

After this special Spellbinder storytime, stick around to watch a performance of Steamboat’s own flying dancers! Spirit Wind Aerial Arts performs elegant high-flying dance in the hammock and silks, suspended high over the Library Lawn.

About the Yampa Valley Crane Festival: Sept. 2-5, 2021

The Greater Sandhill Crane is an iconic species of the Yampa Valley. Returning in the spring, cranes nest and raise their young in wetland areas throughout the valley. In late summer and early fall, hundreds of cranes from the Rocky Mountain flock join the local birds to rest and feed before continuing their journey south. The Yampa Valley Crane Festival celebrates these iconic birds with daily crane viewings, expert speakers, films, art exhibits, workshops, family activities and more. Bud Werner Memorial Library is festival headquarters and the venue for many of these talks, films and events. Learn more about the 10th annual Yampa Valley Crane Festival.
