Spellbinders Training Workshop
- Teen Project Room - 1st Floor
Spellbinders is dedicated to restoring the art of oral storytelling to connect elders to youth, weaving together the wisdom of diverse cultures throughout time. Click here to read more about the national Spellbinders organization.
Trained Spellbinder volunteers will have the opportunity to adopt a local elementary classroom to visit once a month (for a minimum of six visits) over the course of the school year. Teachers are welcome to attend this training for enhancing their grade level curriculum in their own classrooms.
About the Training - Three Sessions
Monday, August 22 from 4-7 pm
Tuesday, August 23 from 4-7 pm
Thursday, August 25 from 4-7 pm
To become a Spellbinder in the Steamboat Springs Chapter, interested volunteers must attend a three-day Spellbinders Workshop Series, led by certified storyteller, Sherry Holland. You will learn and then tell two stories: a 3-5 minute fable during the second session and a 5-10 minute folktale for the last session. But don't worry, learning to tell stories in your own words is easy and LOADS OF FUN!
The Workshop is limited to 10 participants, and will take place in the Library's Teen Project Room. Deadline to register for the class is Friday, August 19. To sign up, please contact Spellbinders Chapter Leader, Sherry Holland, or call 879-0240 x313.
Once registered, you can pick up your Training Packets at the Library's Kids' Desk so you can read ahead (which will help a lot). This Spellbinders Training Workshop is only offered once a year. The cost is $40, which includes a name badge, a background check, and snacks.
