Under The Wire

Friday, August 30, 2024 6:30pm to 7:30pm

Library Hall

A film & conversation about wildlife and navigating the American West's sagebrush sea, for the Yampa Valley Crane Festival

Directed by Mariah Lundgren and featuring conservation photographer Michael Forsberg, this documentary tells the story of a community working together to improve fencelines so pronghorn and other wildlife can move more freely. It also celebrates the wildlife that call the North Platte River Valley along the Colorado–Wyoming border home and the folks living and working on this land to help keep these animals around for generations to come.

Following the screening, Mariah and Michael will be present to introduce the film and take questions along with Benjy Duke, leader of the conservation and stewardship program at A Bar A, Big Creek, and State Line Ranches where Under The Wire was filmed.

About the Yampa Valley Crane Festival: Aug. 29  — Sept. 1, 2024

The Greater Sandhill Crane is an iconic species of the Yampa Valley. Returning in the spring, cranes nest and raise their young in wetland areas throughout the valley. In late summer and early fall, hundreds of cranes from the Rocky Mountain flock join the local birds to rest and feed before continuing their journey south. The Yampa Valley Crane Festival celebrates these iconic birds with daily crane viewings, expert speakers, films, art exhibits, workshops, family activities and more. Bud Werner Memorial Library is festival headquarters and the venue for many of these talks, films and events. Learn more about the 13th annual Yampa Valley Crane Festival.
