One Book Steamboat: Genealogy 101
Tuesday, February 4, 2020 - 6:30pm to 7:30pm
- Library Hall
As we delve in to a community read of Dani Shapiro's memoir, Inheritance, a complicated story of family and genealogy, perhaps the door will open to consider researching your own family history. Reference Librarian John Major shares an overview the library's physical, virtual and human resources available for genealogical research, including method-specific texts, databases and programming.
For the first part of his presentation, John will introduce the library's myriad resources, including our physical collection (Circulating, Reference, Microfilm and ILL resources), virtual collection (Genealogy Databases, Routt County Digital Archive and eContent collections), and library programming (Monthly Genealogy Club Meetings, FamilySearch Affiliate Library status, and membership in the Colorado Council of Genealogical Societies). He'll also explain ways to access the collections, including publicly available hardware and software.
John will follow up with quick and common search demonstrations for the following resources:
- Bud Werner Memorial Library's OPAC
- Ancestry Library Edition
- Colorado Historic Newspapers
- FamilySearch.org
This is a featured event in the 2020 ONE BOOK STEAMBOAT community read of Dani Shapiro's Inheritance.
